A time of uncertainty often leads to fear. Here at the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL) we see these times as an opportunity “to peel back the onion,” to look inward, to see ourselves as a whole, move past the surface and dig deep, really deep, to find that revelation we believe we had yet to discover. It is that discovery for which the theme of this 2007-2008 Bi-Annual Report “Breaking Through Barriers” is penned. It is during these turbulent times, the mission, purpose and presence of an Urban League is truly brought to light. While tackling, reform, recession, recovery, and discrimination, the MWUL continued to forge ahead to empower people of color by seeking to eradicate those disparities that adversely affect those at the bottom. Yes, we gained a more profound understanding of our own unique position that
truly defines who we are – the Urban League.
